This style takes it cues from the great Phyfe lyre chairs produced in the
early 1800’s in New York. The chairs are true to form and have magnificent carved lyre
backsplats (see detail). The
chairs are also defined with a carved paw foot which Phyfe used on his
best examples. Also
note that the stiles which run through to the sides of each seat are
beautifully reeded. These chairs are somewhat larger than the original examples
and benefit by them being comfortable and commodious. The seats have a yellow leather upholstery that is in
excellent condition.
