This is a typical Philadelphia
card table type which was made with several variations.
Unlike our other Philadelphia card table, (see
sw00848), this example never had corner brackets
and is a more restrained yet fine table. For example,
the gadrooning below the apron, although less pronounced
than the other example, is actually a bit more detailed
in execution (see
detail). These tables characteristically have
Marlborough legs, which lend a very solid feeling
to the table. This table is made of very dense island
mahogany and is quite heavy.
