ITEM SW00839: A Mahogany Chippendale Card Table, Philadelphia c.1780

This is a typical Philadelphia card table type which was made with several variations. Unlike our other Philadelphia card table, (see sw00848), this example never had corner brackets and is a more restrained yet fine table. For example, the gadrooning below the apron, although less pronounced than the other example, is actually a bit more detailed in execution (see detail). These tables characteristically have Marlborough legs, which lend a very solid feeling to the table. This table is made of very dense island mahogany and is quite heavy.

For related tables, see the attached scan from Horner's Blue Book.
