ITEM SW00920: A Fine Carved Mahogany George III Settee
in the Chinese Chippendale Taste, c.1750

This is an extremely fine settee with beautifully raked rear legs and classic carving throughout (see detail). For a related piece in the Chinese Chippendale style, see Colonial Furniture and note the termination of the feet. This settee has been reupholstered in a fine silk fabric with the underneath open for inspection. Settees such as these are quite rare as few have survived and this one is indeed a treasure which is very rare in the Chinese Chippendale model. The seat is very commodius, (see attached), and makes a very reserved yet highly elegant statement in any fine 18th century setting.
